Thoughts can seem SO real…
Having just emerged from a “electric thought storm” it sheds light (literally – read on…) on how we can so get caught up in our thinking and believe it to be true… I can now laugh at myself, but boy did it seem real at the time!
Here’s the story…
The other day the lights in my lounge blew when I switched them on. Not a major catastrophy, but a minor inconvenience when you’re about to move home and have 1001 other things you’d rather be doing than getting an electrician to call round.
So I got right into it “stupid lights – why now, why couldn’t you have waited a couple of weeks (no I’m not always a nice person!!) till I was out of here”…moan, grumble, huff and puff etc etc”.
What happened? I didn’t feel great and I made up a whole scenario where the Electrician would either be on holiday or so busy he wouldn’t be able to get to help me before I move out, and then my buyer would hate me, in fact he may even get so cross he’ll sue me . (Maybe I’m watching too much TV).
So I spent a day NOT contacting the Electrician because I already KNEW he wouldn’t be able to help me!
Then I slept on it.
This morning I realised how caught up I’d been in my thinking in the moment and rang the Electrician.
He was working just round the corner and popped in half an hour later – dimmer switch has broken, he’ll be round with a new one tomorrow.
End of drama, end of my made-up story.
If I hadn’t believed my thinking I could have saved myself a bit of time and a bunch of anxiety, but hey, I’m human.
And its great to see the light!!
To your calmness, clarity and peace of mind,
